7/29/23 HIKE UP RAINBOW FALLS TRAIL UP – BULLHEAD TRAIL DOWN

It had been a few years so I was overdue for a hike up to Mt. Leconte.  It’s always calling!  Such a beautiful mountain and so many trails to get there.  Never gets old.

So we took the Rainbow Falls Trail up but decided to hike Bullhead Trail on the way down.  Now, I have to say that I haven’t hiked Bullhead Trail since the last fires and was surprised at the difference.  Most of the foliage had burned off the sides of the trail as well as a lot of the mountainsides in the distance. This trail was in the open due to the fires and lucky us get caught in a thunderstorm on the way down.  Didn’t get many pictures.

Distances below

Rainbow Fails trail to Mt. Leconte – 6.5 miles

Bullhead trail to Mt. leconte – 6.9 miles

We got there early enough to get a good parking spot!

Let the hike begin…great weather!  We know it will get hot so we start around 6:30am.

Ring-Necked Snake

Hard to see but there is a Ring-Necked Snake in this photo. This may be the first time I’ve seen one of these out on the trail. Definitely a highlight to this hike.
