Evernew Titanium DX Stand, Cross Stand & Alcohol Stove

I’ve currently got the Solo Stove and I absolutely love it.  It has its place in my arsenal of backpacking gear as a semi-luxury item and it works very well in this role.  Sure, it’s a little heavy because it’s made of stainless steel but not too heavy to take on a backpack trip every now and then.  The concept is very cool so I wanted to find something along the same lines but at a lighter weight so I could take it on longer hikes without feeling guilty.

The Solo Stove really excels in certain situations. a)  Shorter hikes where the extra weight of it isn’t an issue.

b)  Dry hikes where firewood is aplenty and no rain is expected.

c)  Winter hikes where you can get some warmth from your stove while you cook – when you use with wood fuel.

d)  Areas where you aren’t allowed real campfires are ideal for Solo Stove because it’s like a mini-fire in a can.

e)  An instance where you want a decent sized stove to cook with larger cookware because it is fairly large in diameter.

Now, the Evernew Titanium DX Stand will fill in the gaps the Solo Stove leaves open.  It’s a much smaller and lighter design so that makes it suitable for my longer hikes where I may be concerned about weight and space.  I’m able to burn smaller fuel with it because of it’s smaller size and still get a decent cooking flame.  I was amazed at how light it is when I got it because it’s made of very thin sheet titanium.  I was also surprised at how small the diameter is which actually works perfectly with my Snow Peak Titanium Mini Solo cooking pot and it fits inside of it with my folding titanium spoon in a nice compact space.  This is a great combination for me because it makes a great lightweight package. Evernew also makes a Titanium Alcohol Stove that mates with the Titanium DX Stand but I haven’t purchased it as of yet.  It’s also made of titanium and weighs in at a mere 1.2oz but I may purchase it at a later time but so far I’ve been using my Solo Stove alcohol burner so far and it works pretty well, just 4 or 5 times the weight.  It just barely fits in the stand for packing and cooking and works great but it’s about a fourth of the price and I already had it for my Solo Stove so I’ve been using it with the Evernew Stand. FIRST

TRIAL:  I recently took the Evernew Titanium DX Stand in conjunction with my Solo Stove Alcohol Burner to the Smoky Mountains Big Creek Area for a 3 day adventure and was quite pleased with its’ performance.  I haven’t operated it with wood fuel but it works great with the Solo Stove alcohol burner and it boiled water for my dinner in a decent amount of time with little fuss.  The flames jetted out the vertical oval slots very well and synced up with my Snow Peak Titanium Mini Solo Pot like they were made for each other. I can’t wait for my next trip so I can try it with wood fuel as well.  I’ll throw in my two cents once I do.

I’ve used this stand several times since Big Creek and it has performed very well on each occasion.  It fits my Snow Peak Mini Solo pot perfectly.

UPDATE:  Between using my Evernew DX Stand in conjunction with my Solo Stove alcohol burner and weighing its advantages against the weight savings I’ve decided to continue to use my Solo Stove alcohol burner.  It’s only a few ounces more and it has advantages over the Evernew alcohol burner that are just too good.  I really like the fact that you can store alcohol in it so you can leave your alcohol fuel bottle at home and just burn the fuel stored in the burner reservoir.  You just snuff it out with the diffuser lid when you’re done cooking your meal save the remaining alcohol for the morning.  It’s just too convenient to not take.

I did however, go and purchase the Evernew Titanium Cross Stand but have yet to use it at this point.  I’m looking forward to using it along with the Solo Stove alcohol burner to create an ultra-light stove setup.  It’s very light and should be an awesome setup.

UPDATE 12/1/15:  I went ahead and caved and purchased the Evernew Alcohol Stove!  Now I have the full Evernew set so I’m ready.  With all of the pieces it’s very flexible.  If I want I can just take the cross stand and the alcohol burner and have a super lightweight alcohol stove.
